Some contractors bury travel in the job price and pad the labor line. We itemize it. Below is exactly how mobilization is charged so you can see what part of the estimate is travel and what part is the work.
Per-mile charges are quoted on the driving distance from our Hillsboro Street yard to the job site, at the actual road mileage, using the standard route. No fuel surcharges, no per-diem, no hidden daily trucking fees. If the job runs long and the extension is on our side, we absorb the additional mobilization — client-caused extensions get requoted before we continue.
Travel is 3% of the total job cost. You can see it as its own line rather than guessing whether it's buried somewhere in the labor number.
Standard service radius is 150 miles from our Hillsboro Street yard in Houston. That covers the Ship Channel, Galveston Bay, the Beaumont-Port Arthur corridor, Freeport, and most of the middle Texas Gulf Coast. Beyond 150 miles we take jobs on a case-by-case basis — usually large planned projects where the mobilization cost is a small fraction of the total. Within 75 miles, travel is included in the quoted job price — no separate line item. Between 75 and 150 miles, we add a per-mile round-trip travel line, currently $2.85 to $3.15 per mile depending on distance. That line appears on the estimate as its own item so you can see exactly what travel costs. No fuel surcharges, no hidden daily fees, no per-diem.
Within Zone A (25 miles), yes — we can typically have a rig on site within 4 hours of an approved work order, day or night. Within Zone B (25–75 miles), the emergency response window extends to about 8 hours. Beyond 75 miles, emergency response is by arrangement — we may be able to mobilize a crew the same day depending on what else is deployed, but the standard answer is "scheduled" rather than "emergency."
Within Zone A, there's a shop minimum that covers setup and cleanup — usually around 3 hours of crew time. Within Zone B, the minimum is a full day because it doesn't make sense to send a rig 50 miles for a 2-hour job. Beyond 75 miles, the minimum is 2–3 days of work. The minimum isn't a hard number — it's just the point below which the travel and setup cost starts making the per-square-foot price unreasonable for you.
Site visits are always free, but scheduling depends on zone. Within 25 miles, we can typically visit within 48 hours. Within 75 miles, within 3 business days. Between 75 and 150 miles, we coordinate site visits with other jobs in the same area — meaning we might visit on a Thursday when we're already deploying a rig nearby, rather than making a dedicated trip. For very distant jobs, we sometimes do the initial assessment over video call with photos and defer the physical visit until we've agreed on scope.
We work in Louisiana regularly — Lake Charles, Sulphur, and the western Louisiana refinery corridor are within our 150-mile radius. Beyond that, out-of-state work is quoted individually and usually only makes sense for larger planned projects. We're licensed to work in Texas and Louisiana; other states would require additional licensing we'd need to arrange before quoting.
